Lunar New Year Celebration from a diversified background

Updated: Jan 24, 2023

It was such an amazing night at The Piano: Centre for Music and the Arts with 325 audiences and 50 performers. Everyone an Artist Trust, in collaboration with the Canterbury Malaysian Society and the New Zealand China Union of Culture and Arts, was making the 2023 Lunar New Year Celebration from a diversified background a great success. This event is produced by Kathy and directed by Roy Lu. It is supported by Christchurch City Council and the Ministry of Ethnic Communities, proudly supported by Swaroski, Emma Guo from Harcourts Grenadier, and Dev Karwasara from Re - immigration. We cannot make this happen without their help and support.

Our outstanding MCs Mengping Cheng and Daniel Boczniewicz from the University of Canterbury have done an amazing job with the performers and audiences.

The celebration then starts with a multicultural collective singing arranged by Christy Yau and the musicians and the singers with beautiful voices are from Malaysia, Vietnam, China, New Zealand, and America.

Audiences were so immersed into the live show, such as the Natural Magic Pirates who attracted all children sitting on the floor in front of them, the Nigerian dancing girls who are so fantastically shining on the stage, the Bangladesh and Indian ladies who are so elegant and showing their artistic taste at a great level, the Tribal Belly dancers who are confidently and marvelously demonstrating an optimistic attitude towards life, the Latin band that makes people intensively feel the charm of live music , and the Polish dancers who have offered the audiences a great sense of happiness and a perfect ending for the whole show. We are celebrating Lunar New Year with people from various backgrounds.

We are also lucky to have great Chinese background dancers, singers, and musicians who are real assets to the grand success of this event.

Three rounds of lucky draws have brought the night to a very special one, because wishing everyone good luck is a Lunar New Year tradition with blessings of the year of the rabbit. Dev Karwasara from Re-Immigration, Emma Guo from Harcourts Grenadier, Sam Yau, the President of Canterbury Malaysian Society, Candy Zhang, Senior Advisor of the Ministry of Ethnic Communities and Roy Lu, the President of Everyone an Artist Trust did the lucky draw and delivered good luck and best wishes to everyone.

All children were invited onto the stage and given a red packet, which is also a Lunar New Year tradition, wishing children everything goes well in the coming year.

What a great evening! We would like to thank everyone who has strived for a successful event tonight, the staff, the volunteers, as well as the Piano staff and volunteers, and the cleaner who does all the cleaning after the event is finished.

We are looking forward to doing this again next time, with all amazing artists and friendly communities.

Wish everyone a happy new year of the rabbit.
