The Golden Time
To respect the early Chinese settlers during the Gold Rush
A broken family letter, a period of dusty times. After brushing away the dust of history, a piece of the past that are either happy or sad, longing or melancholy is displayed in front of me. They come in pursuit of a better life and they are gone for dreams. They are silent but they should not be forgotten. The yellowed old photos, the incomplete historical relics, and the letters to the family that were not sent all tell the story of the hard time of the early Chinese settlers during the Gold Rush. This is a theatrical performance with a live band, dance and actors.
We are dedicated to working on a theatrical programme combined with live music, contemporary dancing and performing.
Meet The Team
Roy Lu
Director
Roy started his career as an actor at Juxing Film Production in China. Then he was teaching at his home university and later he was the associate professor in Performing Arts. He studied Film and Television Literature and Art at Sichuan University in China and got his Master’s Degree there. He also studied at Shanghai Theater Academy where he further developed his performing theories, knowledge and skills. He then visited as a visiting scholar Professor Maria Consagra at Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi, Milan, Italy for art exchanges. It is there in Milan that he was immersed in contemporary theatrical concepts intensively and has determined to deepen his interest in this area. Roy has more than 15 years of experience in teaching performing arts and directing theatre projects at a university in China and he developed and directed lots of theatre plays that attracted thousands of audiences in many cities in China when having tour performances. Additionally, he and his students visited National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and Qinghua University in Beijing and their play Masters of the Generation was highly acknowledged by the audience there. Before moving to New Zealand, he stayed in Seattle Washington for a while and the strong multi-artistic atmosphere there was a real asset in his future art creation.
Ka Su
Choreographer
Ka Su is the artistic director of Dream Nest Dance Troupe in New Zealand and Yulin Sino-foreign Dream Nest Culture and Art Media Company in China. He has been engaged in sports skills competitions for two years. He graduated from the classical dance and folk dance at Guangxi Arts Institute in China, the modern dance at Guangdong Dancing Academy and the modern dance performance at UNITEC University of New Zealand. Ka Su is one of the first starring and choreographers of contemporary dancing in China. He is also the starring and choreographer of New Zealand's famous Bungudys Broadway cabaret and Auckland Contemporary Dance group. A few years ago, the modern dance drama Dance in the Milky Way he choreographed and directed was invited to perform at the Auckland International Arts Festival in New Zealand. Additionally, he is also a specially invited choreographer and a starring role for the Step Music and Dance Troupe in Japan. He was also a visiting professor at the Hattori Academy of Performing Arts in Japan and the East Auckland Academy of Performing Arts in New Zealand. Furthermore, he is also the artistic director and choreographer of the song and dance drama Meet Liu Sanjie in Yangshuo, Guilin, China. He has also won high-level awards for performance and choreography in many art performance competitions and performances in China and Japan. With his own works, he has participated in international art festivals in China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, India, Singapore, New Zealand, Japan, etc.
Yifei Tang
Music arranger
Yifei is a freelance music artist and co-founder of Cloud Road Music, a New Zealand music production company. He is worked on scoring various types of media such as gaming and film, with clients such as Netease and miHoYo. Beyond his time in the studio he enjoys playing piano, guitar and violin, and has an interest in traditional ethnic instruments
Tina Tang
Tina Tang was born into a musical family. She is a violinist with extensive experience in solo repertoire, chamber music and orchestral works. She has performed in recitals and concerts, was first violin player in a professional symphony orchestra for many years.
Tina Tang is the organizer, violinist and conductor of Black Swan String Quartet (Guangxi, China), Splendid Group (Guangxi, China) and DatangMusic Ensemble (Christchurch, NZ). Her arrangements of music works for concerts have been well received by audiences.
Renyu Chen
Renyu Chen, born in Jingmen, Hubei in 1943, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Hubei University of Arts in 1965, majoring in oil painting. He also completed the Mural Painting Class of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1984. He is a national fisrt-level artist of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. Additionally, he is a member of the Mural Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association, the Chinese Mural Society, the Cultural Development Promotion Association of the Ministry of Culture of China, and the Director of the Art Committee of the New Zealand China Union of Culture and Art.
Bob Hou
Bob Hou, studied with Canterbury cellist Rebecca Bendre. Playing with the Garden City Orchestra and various other ensembles.
